Altos de Chavon AKA the “City of Artists”, is a village of medieval style. Its construction dates back to the 1970s and not of the X century as makes you believe at first glance. A walk through Altos de Chavon The villa has an archaeological museum, an amphitheater, a recognized school of design, museums, art gallery, restaurants, bars, shops and the St. Stanislaus church that is located in the center of all the villa.

I loved this place, I confess it.

Altos de Chavon: A work of art

It was product of the hard work in set of hundreds of craftsmen. Each stone, wood and decor were cut off and placed by craftsmen who participated in its construction. The design of this villa was in charge of the Italian Roberto Coppa, designer and filmmaker, who supervised every detail.

One of the most remarkable things about this place is its amphitheater. With a greco-roman style, the Amphitheater Altos de Chavon has capacity for about 5,000 people and by its platform have spent a large amount of national and international artists like Frank Sintra, JLO, Chayanne, Enrique Iglesias, La Oreja de Van Gogh, Ricky Martin, among others.

Opening Ceremony

The official opening of the villa was realized in 1982 and was celebrated in a concert with Frank Sinatra and Carlos Santana in the most beautiful amphitheater of Altos de Chavon. And in case you wondered… Yes, it is the same event where Buddy Rich shook the entire world with an impressive drum solo. Do you remember?

With an spectacular landscape over the Chavon River and the Caribbean Sea, Altos de Chavon is a quiet place in the middle of a natural environment  and is inside of Casa Campo.
